Kodagu, or popularly known as Coorg, is a beautiful hilly district in south of Karnataka, India. This place is famous for its plantations of coffee and spices as well as their unique cuisine. These were two main reasons for us to plan a travel to this part of southern India. It was a quick 3 day trip which started with an early morning flight from Pune to Bengaluru followed by a 6 hour drive to our destination. Virajpet along with Madikeri are two major towns of this district with latter being its headquarters. And our stay was at the lovely resort run by Club Mahindra on outskirts of Virajpet.
Ideally, best time to visit Coorg is during the rainy seasons. But in month of November also, the weather wasn't that bad. The days were hot when sun was up but nights were very pleasant. And no rains let us enjoy the natural beauty of Coorg more than what would have been in continuous downpour. Various species of birds greet you as the sun rises. Bulbul, Wabler, Babbler, Hornbill are few of those.

Flowers bloom as the day progresses attracting beautiful multi-color butterflies.

And the place is always green with its rich plantations of coffee and different kind of spices. You can take a relaxed walk amongst them.

Other than the natural beauty of this hills station, there are many other tourist attractions as well. No hill station is complete without a waterfall and Coorg has two of these to boast about: Iruppu Falls & Abbey Falls. I liked Iruppu falls more as it involved a beautiful 10 minutes hike through the surrounding forests full of flora and fauna. Abbey falls is more crowded place but it is equally beautiful.

Then we have a national park called Nagarhole National park which combined with 3 other national parks form larges protected forest area of southern India. But you have to be really lucky to catch a glimpse of tiger. Otherwise, what you can mostly see are spotted deer which are plenty along with elephants and langur.

And then there are temples. Kodava people are highly religious with various deities. So the place is full of various temples each having its own history e.g. Omkareshwar temple which is an ancient shrine for Lord Shiva. There is also a Buddhist monastery called Namdroling Buddhist Monastery or Golden Temple.
